Expert Systems

The field of expert systems is an extremely interesting and cutting-edge computing technology. Time Software has developed a variety of expert systems for a number of fields based on its own generic expert system. An Expert system is a computer program filled with expert knowledge against which you can ask a variety of questions in order to obtain answers. Other types of systems such as medical aid diagnosis expert systems however, ask you questions and give answers based on your answers. An expert system allows only experts to input the relevant information. So in this way it learns. Eventually it learns so much that it becomes the expert of the experts for it holds only the best of all the information.

The problem with many typical expert systems is that they lack discression, sympathy and basic common sense in their answers. What's often overlooked in design is the human factor. We are dealing with the human emotion here and we don't want our applications to upset or offend anyone. So this is a primary area of focus for us.

Although expert systems are used typically in areas of Education or Research and Development, the same principles can generally be applied or downscaled to produce what we call 'mini-expert systems' to other areas such as Industry and Commerce. Financial expert systems, for example, can be used to provide relevant investment and taxation information against which informed, intelligent and effective decisions can be made.
